366 Photography Challenge Week Thirty-six - Aberdeen Photographer
Week thirty-six of my 366-day photography challenge has brought me a diverse range of subjects, from striking plants to iconic architecture. This week, I explored deeper into my local surroundings, capturing the beauty of Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen, while also reflecting on the busy life of a freelancer and a parent.
Day 237: Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’
As I walked by the roadside, I had been observing the crocosmia for weeks, but other photos had taken priority. On day 237, however, the plant's shape and position caught my eye in a particularly beautiful way. It had an almost alien quality that I wanted to highlight through my composition and choice of depth of field.
Day 238: Sunset in Westhill
We’ve been treated to some stunning sunsets in Aberdeenshire lately. While photographing them may seem repetitive, I believe that even though we often encounter beauty that is commonplace, we shouldn’t take it for granted. Every sunset is unique and worth valuing, no matter how often we experience it.
Day 239: Aberdeen’s Architecture
I am a “beauty addict”, and architecture is one of my favourite subjects to photograph. On day 239, during a visit to Aberdeen City for a networking event with Women Connect, I took the opportunity to capture some of the city's architectural gems. I wanted to condense the richness of Aberdeen's architectural heritage into a single image.
Day 240: Westhill in Black and White
During my regular walk, I found myself wondering what I would photograph next. Yet, nature’s beauty constantly evolves, offering something fresh even in familiar surroundings—if you pay attention.
Day 241: The Busy Life of a Freelancer
I had a busy but pleasant day—after all, I’m doing what I love. As usual, the alarm rang at 5:20 am. After making coffee, I wrote some early emails because I knew the day was going to be hectic. I spent time editing photos, attending to a new client, preparing social media content, working out, and… I forgot to pick up my daughter from school!
I still need to adapt to the new schedule, especially as the pick-up location changes. So, I drove and finally picked her up. Fortunately, I had leftovers from a casserole, so I managed to avoid cooking tonight. Then, I took today’s photo. After that, I’ll edit a few more images before finally heading to bed.
It’s challenging to be a parent, run a business, and take care of your health all at the same time. That’s why we should congratulate ourselves for managing it all, staying disciplined, and sticking to our values and priorities.
Day 242: The Hidden Buildings of Aberdeen
After working in the morning, I decided to take a break and treat my daughter to some window shopping and dinner out. Whenever we walk together, I point out the beautiful architectural features of Aberdeen. Today, I was looking to photograph one of the city's iconic yet often overlooked buildings, and it became the perfect model for the day’s
Day 242: The Disruption
Another feature I had been observing was this plant that turns copper brown during the autumn season. Today, I noticed the disruption of this weed with a yellow flower, and I thought it would make a great photo for today’s challenge.
This week reinforced the notion that beauty lies in the details, whether it's in the colours of a sunset, the textures of a flower, or the lines of a building. Even during the hustle of daily life, there are always moments worth capturing. This challenge pushes me to see the world with fresh eyes every day.
