Aberdeen Photographer - 366 Photography Challenge – Week Forty-Five

This week’s photography challenge was filled with new landscapes and incredible contrasts as I returned from Spain to capture the seasonal beauty of Aberdeenshire. From sunny Spanish parks to the vivid hues of Scottish autumn, each day offered something unique and memorable, even including a Halloween-inspired self-portrait that brought a dash of cultural flair. I hope you enjoy these highlights from a week that celebrated both nature and creativity.

Day 300: Last Day in Spain

We drove from Córdoba to Madrid, casually noting the upcoming showers by the radio news, and feeling grateful for our holiday’s good weather. After reaching Madrid, we stopped at a lovely park near the airport for a quick lunch and a stroll before our flight to London, then home to Aberdeen. The next day, a fellow photographer tagged me in a video showing storm damage from DANA, saying I’d left just in time! The unexpected destruction was quite a shock, especially as the forecast had given no hint of it.

Day 301: Capturing Aberdeenshire

After settling back in with some unpacking and chores, I went for a walk. The contrast between here and Spain was striking, Aberdeenshire was in full autumn splendour while Spain had been pleasantly warm. I loved how the trees lined the path in gorgeous colours, so I made it my capture for the day.

Day 302: Westhill in Autumn

The weather was perfect for a walk, and I couldn’t resist getting out for more photos. I found a scene that I knew I had to capture before any strong winds could strip the leaves away. With Halloween on the horizon, I was also making plans for a creative self-portrait in my studio.

Day 303: Halloween Self-Portrait

I wanted to do something unique for Halloween, so despite feeling tired, I used items I already had at home to make an interesting setup. As a Latina, dressing as a Catrina felt like the perfect choice. I found some makeup ideas on Pinterest, which I refined in Photoshop afterward. The background was created with AI, and I wrapped up around 1 am, knowing I’d be up at 5:30. The next day’s image would definitely need to be simpler!

Day 304: The Old Zenit Camera

After a client visit to plan an upcoming shoot and coordinate outfits, I spent the afternoon working and collecting my daughter from school. By dinner, I was ready for a more relaxed shot. Capturing the details of my vintage Zenit camera under studio lighting was ideal, showcasing its characterful textures and design.

Day 305: A Stunning Scottish Sunset

Today I enjoyed a rare morning lie-in till 7:30! I spent the morning editing photos from our October holiday, then went for an afternoon walk. The sky turned a brilliant red at sunset, and I paused to capture it, enjoying a peaceful moment of natural beauty.

Day 306: Bennachie Mountain

For the last day of this week’s challenge, I took advantage of the still-pleasant weather to photograph Bennachie Mountain from a new angle. My stiff neck made it a little challenging, but nothing could keep me from completing the week!

Day 306.

Week 44 of my 366 Photography Challenge was a journey through contrasting landscapes. From the last sunny memories of Spain to the striking autumn views in Scotland, I’ve embraced each moment. Here’s to more unforgettable captures in the weeks to come.
