Aberdeen Photographer - 366 Photography Challenge – Week Forty-Seven - Blog

This week's photography challenge captured the essence of perseverance and creativity during busy times. From monochrome textures to autumnal walks, festive decorations, and even the approaching arrival of snow, each image reflects the beauty in life's everyday moments—even when the days are long and demanding.

Day 314: Texture in Monochrome

At this time of year, everything seems to accelerate, with an increasing number of activities and commitments. This photography challenge has become harder to accomplish with the added combination of celebrations, work, family obligations, unpredictable weather, and short daylight hours. However, building resilience is one of the key goals of this challenge.

On Day 134, the task of taking the daily photo was particularly difficult, and honestly, some days after that were just as challenging. For Day 314, I chose to photograph the texture of a plant to complete the day's challenge. I directed my softbox upwards, placed the plant on top, and shot from above. Simple, yet effective.

Day 315: Beautiful Autumnal Day

What a lovely walk I had on this day! The blue skies and warm sunshine were exactly what I needed to clear my mind and take a refreshing break. Although I often walk the same paths throughout the year, the changing seasons transform them into something new and charming every time.

Day 316: Mahonia in Flower

After finishing editing a photo session for a client, I stepped into my garden to see if there was anything worth capturing. To my surprise, I found the Mahonia in bloom. The lighting was perfect for the style of plant photography I love, and this simple discovery saved the day!

Day 317: Christmas Decoration

I visited Aberdeen to volunteer at my daughter's school. Knowing my day would be busy, I brought my camera with the intention of capturing something festive. I photographed some Christmas decorations in town, featuring red and white stars. While like it, this combination reminded me of something a painter once told me—"blood and bandages"😅—so I decided to edit the image in monochrome for a cleaner, timeless look.😉

Day 318: Sunrise

This week was particularly exhausting, so when I saw the morning sunrise evolving into a vibrant display, especially with clouds highlighting the colours, I stepped outside into my garden and captured the scene. It felt amazing to complete the day's challenge so early!

Day 319: Aberdeen Beach

During the week, I usually prefer staying at home, focusing on workouts and business tasks. But my daughter had a meeting with friends, so I drove her to Aberdeen beach. Anticipating this, I brought my camera. The lighting was gorgeous, and I had to choose between publishing a photo of a rainbow with wind turbines or the lighthouse framed by beautiful clouds. Naturally, the clouds won—again.

Day 320: The Snow Is Coming

Hearing the news that snow was on the way, my anxiety spiked. I dislike driving in snowy conditions and prefer to stay home during such weather. While rushing to the supermarket to stock up, I noticed the storm clouds rolling in. I stopped along the way to capture this image, which perfectly illustrates how the weather was transitioning to cover everything in a cold, white blanket.

Day 320.

Photography isn’t just about capturing images—it’s about observing and appreciating the world, even in the busiest and most challenging times. This week, through clouds, flowers, and festive scenes, I was reminded that every day offers something unique to capture.
