Aberdeen Photographer : Photography Challenge – Week Forty-Six
As I embark on the last few weeks of my photography challenge, each day brings a fresh opportunity to find beauty in both small, everyday items and seasonal landscapes. Here’s a look at my latest creative captures, from vibrant textures to monochrome still-life compositions, as I balance work, family, networking events, and creativity in photography.
Day 307: Banana Assassin – A Hint of My Sense of Humour
After a busy workday, time flew by, and I realised I still needed to take my daily challenge photo and try on my outfit for an upcoming BNI networking meeting. To save time, I combined both tasks. Inspired by pop art, I put on the dress and added a leather glove, posing with a banana to create a playful “Banana Assassin” shot.
Day 308: The Berries
After a late night, I set my alarm for 5 a.m. but woke up even earlier, at 4 a.m., with excitement for the networking event. Arriving by 6:40 a.m., I enjoyed the chance to connect with others over breakfast, share a 60-second pitch, and create new relationships. Later in the day, I took a moody shot of white berries after a shower, giving the image a monochrome finish to highlight the water droplet.
Day 309: Qipao Dress
I’ve had this Qipao dress for over 25 years. Handcrafted from fabric I found in Argentina, it’s a beloved piece that brings a unique blend of cultures to my wardrobe.
Day 310: The Starfish
This starfish is a precious memento from Ghana, bought from local fishermen’s wife who catch various items in their nets. I wanted to capture its textured surface in detail, making it a focal point for today’s challenge.
Day 311: Lemon Squeezer
With persistent rain outside, I turned to studio photography to complete the challenge. Using a lemon squeezer and constant lighting, I focused on the metallic texture, creating an interesting contrast against a dark background. This photo was a quick, creative solution after a long day working and volunteering to set up a ballroom for a dance event at my daughter’s school.
Day 312: The Glass
As the end of the challenge approaches, the combination of bad weather, short days, and increasing work pressures has added weight to the task. Yesterday, after a busy week, I captured a crystal glass in a simple shot to celebrate the beauty in everyday objects.
Day 313: Westhill in Autumn
The days grow shorter, and the Scottish sunset now comes shortly after 4 p.m. For those visiting from other parts of the world, this is a glimpse into autumn in Scotland.
With each passing day, the challenge continues to push me creatively, allowing me to see beauty in both simplicity and detail. These daily photos reflect the changing seasons, a busy work-life balance, and my commitment to capturing something unique, no matter how small or grand the subject.
