London through my lens by leticia gaidon bradford - aberdeen portrait photographer
Holiday Break in London
We took a short break in London, planning to explore its museums and botanical gardens. Then I saw the riots and, at first, I assumed the unrest was happening somewhere else, but by the time we arrived, everything had already calmed down.
London really impressed me with how quickly everything was restored. The authorities handled things efficiently, identifying those responsible and dealing with the situation promptly. I’ve always believed that strong institutions and order are the foundation of a prosperous society. Living in places where these values aren’t upheld has shown me how easily things can fall apart – from personal safety to the economy. When these basic principles aren’t in place, no amount of excuses can fix the problems that arise.
The events leading up to our visit definitely influenced how I saw London and what I chose to photograph. Normally, I like to capture the essence of a place and its vibe, and this time was no different. The photos I took reflect the sense of power, beauty, and the reassuring presence of order that I felt while we were there. It’s amazing how strong institutions not only protect us from chaos but even from dangerous politics.
Our London trip wasn’t just about sightseeing – it turned into a reflection on how important it is for a city to have stability and strength. The photos I took, I hope, will show not only London’s beauty but also the sense of resilience that defines it. The city’s quick recovery from the unrest really spoke to me about the power of solid institutions and the impact they have on our everyday lives.
