Welcome to Week Thirty-One of my 366 Photography Challenge! This week, I’ve captured a variety of scenes around Aberdeen, highlighting the beauty in everyday moments and the unique charm of our surroundings. Join me as I share the stories behind each photograph.
Day 203: Asiatic Lilies
I used to have a lot of Asiatic lilies, but it seems rabbits love to eat them, even the ones in pots. For some mysterious reason, they haven’t munched on these ones... yet. Asiatic lilies tolerate the inclement weather of Scotland very well, even the snow! Just plant them, and they bloom generously in the summertime—if you don’t have rabbits in your garden, of course!
Day 204: Vast Sky
The wind was shaping the clouds into long, elastic forms, as you can see in the image. The soft light of the late evening completed the scene beautifully.
Day 205: The Fodder
I realized that in a few days, I would no longer be able to enjoy the beauty of the golden fodder in the fields, as I saw the farmer starting to harvest them. On this day, the light was gorgeous and very soft. I knew I had to capture this image, as it would soon be gone forever. The same conditions will not be repeated; it was a unique moment. That is the value of being present.
Day 206: Weeds
When we are walking, we usually ignore many details around us, often because we are busy with our thoughts or hurried by our schedules. However, being a photographer makes me more observant than many others, especially with this challenge that forces me to find objects to photograph. I noticed the beauty of these weeds. I often find these plants growing from stairs or paths; they are incredibly tough. I loved the compact cluster of small flowers. I used manual focus to grab attention on just one flower, highlighting the depth and layering among the flowers.
Day 207: The Sunsets in Aberdeenshire
There are many places around the world with beautiful sunsets, and Aberdeenshire is one of them, especially Westhill. The long hours of sunlight during summertime in Scotland prolong these breathtaking scenes.
Day 208: Aberdeen City
My daughter and I went out for dinner, and I knew I wouldn’t have the energy to take the photo for this challenge afterward. Therefore, I carried my camera with me to snap a shot while walking with her. I saw this street art and immediately visualized it as a black and white image.
I went back home after having my first ramen—yes, I know, why didn’t I have it before! It’s so delicious! I was glad I took the picture earlier, as my energy level was low.
Day 209: Sunday Routines and Blackberry Flowers
Sundays are days that I prefer to read in bed with a coffee by my side when possible. I grab several books, ranging from educational to photography. Sundays are also for working out (I listen to podcasts while I work out and take notes if I find something noteworthy) and writing this blog. Finally, at the end of the day, our home tradition is to have spaghetti for dinner (it must be De Cecco number 12). Among these activities, I need to find time for my walk so I can take the picture for the day.
In the final photo of this blog, I decided to capture the details of the blackberry flowers. I love the intricate shape of this flower, so I didn’t want to miss having a memory of it for this challenge.
From the resilience of Asiatic lilies to the fleeting beauty of a farmer's field, each photograph tells a story of the remarkable everyday moments here in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Stay tuned for next week’s adventures and more stunning images!
