Welcome to week thirty-two of my 366 photography challenge! As a professional portrait photographer based in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, Scotland, I embarked on this journey to capture a photo each day for a year. This week has been full of unexpected moments and beautiful scenes. Here are the highlights from days 210 to 216.
Day 210: My Favourite Tree and the Rainbow
I was struggling to find inspiration for today's photo. Usually, while walking, I take mental notes of potential subjects to photograph. However, as the challenge progresses and the season remains the same, my list of ideas is dwindling. Unexpectedly, I discovered a rainbow next to my favourite tree. This was a surprise because there hadn't been any rain, just a tiny cloud on a sunny day that decided to drizzle lightly for this photo. These are the beautiful surprises that sometimes occur when you venture outdoors.
Day 211: The Classic Countryside Image
As part of my challenge and documenting my surroundings this year, I had to capture the typical photo of dried haylage. I had to google this term because, being a city girl living in the countryside, I had no idea what it meant.
Day 212: Sunsets in Aberdeenshire
The last few days have been perfect for walking, with gorgeous weather and beautiful light. I was surprised not to see many people out in the evening, as this time of day offers the most incredible views. I imagine many are watching TV, something I don't do. However, I did find some teenagers gathered to watch the sunset. See? Not everything is lost.
Day 213: Repetitions in Photography
Patterns and repetition occasionally appear in my photos. I took advantage of a tidy farmer's work, who had arranged the haylage in an almost perfect order, to create this shot.
Day 214: Holidays
Although I took a few days off, my challenge continues. I was organising everything for my trip to London and decided to photograph my surviving Asiatic Lily, which had escaped the rabbits.
Day 215: Science Museum, London
As I mentioned previously on my daily posts on Facebook and Threads, museums and botanical gardens are my favourite places to visit during holidays. I miss the cultural activities I enjoyed while living in Buenos Aires. Therefore, holidays are the perfect time to visit as many as possible.
One note regarding the Science Museum: it should be more interactive for kids. This is where you inspire youngsters for science. It should be an engaging and interesting place for them to learn and be curious. As a creative person, I noticed that it still has an old-fashioned concept of science as something boring for the public. This museum looks like a portfolio of past events, with few activities to spark enthusiasm in youngsters. I should write a post about this.
Day 216: Royal Botanical Garden, Kew
For the first time, I visited the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. The day was perfect as it was sunny but not too warm. We walked over 9 km and still missed some places. We finished the day with Argentinian-style empanadas.
This week has been a blend of unexpected beauty, classic countryside scenes, and cultural excursions. The 366 photography challenge continues to push my creativity and allows me to capture the essence of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, even when on holiday. Stay tuned for more daily captures as I journey through this challenge.
