Why to watch: Franca Chaos and Creation (Netflix) / by Leticia Gaidon Bradford

During a ladies weekend out, I found out that many of my friends didn’t watch the documentary about Franca Sozzani. Therefore, I decided to write a blog about someone that I admire so much.

Franca was born in Italy and studied Philosophy and German Literature at university. She was the editor in chief of Vogue Italia from 1988 to 2016. Her magazine was the only publication increasing the number of sales around the world while the rest were in declining.

She was unconventional in a very conservative world, but in a smart way and with style.

“Franca Chaos and Creation” is not only a documentary about someone in the fashion industry, it is a documentary about good leadership.

A Leader

Simon Sinek says that the number one characteristic for being a leader is courage. We can’t deny that she had plenty of that. She not only had the audacity to change the design and content of Vogue Italia also gave freedom to photographers to be creative.

She had a vision and conduct the company to something outstanding, putting her job in danger for that.

“To be a leader is a significant risk”

There are plenty of examples of bad leadership, therefore it is interesting to see her in action in this short movie: Clear communication, collaboration, freedom and trust.

The magazine was reflecting the events of our time.
