366 Photography Challenge: Week Twenty-Seven / by Leticia Gaidon Bradford

This week, despite battling the demanding schedule, I managed to capture moments of serene beauty and everyday wonders. From the mesmerising sunsets to the delightful discovery of blooming thyme, join me as I share the highlights of each day through my lens.

Day 175: A Gorgeous Sunset

During this week, it was difficult to go for a walk due to the amount of work I had, and the weather wasn’t very good in the evenings. I prioritised my clients over this challenge, of course. Therefore, if I could go for a walk, I did it in the evening. Fortunately, on day 175, the weather was unbelievable! Walking down the field with this view was just magical. Most people were watching a football match, and I hardly encountered anyone during my walk. They missed this overwhelmingly beautiful landscape.

Day 176: The Untouchable Keyboard

For many years, I wanted to learn the piano, but I never took lessons. So, when my daughter developed some interest in this instrument, I immediately enrolled her in classes and bought a keyboard for practice. She lost her interest as it wasn’t easy to take classes in Ghana due to the high demand from people interested in learning. By the time we returned to the UK, her interest was already gone. I still keep it, with the idea of starting someday to learn how to play the piano.

Day 177: Thyme in Flower

This is one of the few plants that rabbits didn’t eat. I read an article saying that aromatic plants are not favoured by these mammals, as their sense of smell is very important, and strong aromatic plants affect their perception. Therefore, they try to avoid this kind of plant. I don’t know how trustworthy this information is, as they devoured almost all my salvias. However, I must give some credit to this insight, as they didn’t touch a bit of my thyme.

Day 178: Spinning Vegetable Colander

Don’t ask me how I came to use the inside of a spinning vegetable colander as a connected idea inspired by DNA X-rays. I manipulated my camera out of focus to create that blurry effect. I like to experiment because later I can use this initial idea to create something else in my portraits. For that reason, this challenge is so valuable.

Day 179: Forage Crops

I was drawn to capture the beauty of something so common and simple as forage crops. Our sensitivity to perceiving beauty is what makes all the difference in our lives.

Day 180: The Fake Iceberg Rose

Since I sensed the aroma of that rose, I wanted to have it. So, when I was back in the UK due to Covid, one of the first plants I bought was a (supposed) Iceberg variety. Well, it took all winter and spring until summer to realise that it wasn’t an Iceberg Rose as this one doesn’t have any aroma. You can imagine how disappointed I was. Anyway, it is a gorgeous flower.

Day 181: Sunrays

Seeing the sunrays filtering through the clouds is a view that I never get tired of. Therefore, this is the photo of today.
