Welcome back to my 366 Days of Photography Challenge! This week has been a blend of professional commitments, personal moments, and capturing the beauty of everyday life. From dramatic landscapes to intimate close-ups, here's a glimpse into my photographic journey for week twenty-three.
Day 147: Dramatic Landscape Photo of Bennachie Mountain
Despite it being a bank holiday Monday, I had a headshot session with two directors from a well-known finance brand. The session was enjoyable, and they were incredibly well-prepared and looked fantastic. However, after the session, I didn’t have much energy left for my evening walk. A photo session is always tiring, especially when I have to move all my equipment to the location. Add to this that I am also a mum, and I spent the afternoon baking with my daughter. So, you can imagine I was exhausted by the end of the day. I quickly stepped outside and took a shot of Bennachie Mountain. Fortunately, the view was dramatic with incredible clouds and sunrays filtering through them.
Day 148: Houseplant Image
After the previous day's photo session, I was intensely working on the pictures. I needed a quick solution to fulfil my photo challenge for the day. So, I decided to photograph one of my houseplants. However, none of the compositions I tried looked right. The issue was that not all the flowers looked beautiful. I solved this by cutting a single stem, placing it in a glass, and taking a close-up shot. I then cropped the image creatively to add more impact.
Day 149: Laburnum in Flower
I used to have two Laburnum trees in my garden, but unfortunately, one was knocked down by high winds. I love this tree not only for its magnificent display of yellow flowers but also because it reminds me of my time in Ghana, where there are many mature Laburnum trees. After a day's work, I wanted to capture the beauty of this tree. Previous photos had looked boring and more informative than creative. The wind that day inspired me to capture the tree with movement, giving the image the creative touch I was looking for.
Day 150: Building and Tombs
Every Thursday, I volunteer in the city centre, so it's likely I'll take a photo in Aberdeen on these days. This time, the proximity of a building and nearby tombs caught my eye. The juxtaposition of structures for the living and the dead struck me as ironic, so I took the photo with this conceptual composition in mind.
Day 151: Rain over Bennachie Mountain
I was ready to go for a walk and take the day's picture when I noticed rain approaching in the distance. I quickly took this shot and returned home, as I wasn't in the mood to get wet.
Day 152: Peaceful Evening Walk
On Saturday, I spent the morning working on my business and then worked out. During my exercise, I like to listen to educational podcasts about business or science. After an early dinner, I had the opportunity to go for a walk and take the day's photo. I was pleased to find the path almost empty. During my walks, I prefer not to listen to music, as I enjoy being alone with my thoughts. It's interesting how some people find solitude uncomfortable, while for me, it’s a cherished part of my evening walks. This photo captures the peaceful and welcoming solitude of that soft, beautiful light.
Day 153: Hello Deer
Just outside home I spotted a roe deer eating the branches of a tree. I went toward it very carefully and I wait until started to move. I prefer to shoot in manual focus otherwise it is more likely to miss the shot as I had many leaves in front of it.
This week has been a journey through professional tasks, creative problem-solving, and finding beauty in everyday moments. Each photo tells a story of balancing life’s demands while continuing to explore and capture the world around me. I look forward to sharing more of my photographic adventures with you next week!
